I have just came across some photos from a trip I was on to Brussels in 2012. The Arts Council had invited Caitríona Hastings and I to present the work of An tSnáthaid Mhór to a small audience in the N.Ireland Government Offices.
I managed to squeeze in a quick visit to the local Tin Tin Museum which I really loved. There is something retro about this imagery that has stayed with me since childhood. The rocket is cool!
I have been busy this week setting up a photo shoot for a new book I am working on. I have been very lucky to have had assistance from some very kind people. Pat from the Lyric Theatre has been very patient with me during our meetings regarding the sort of clothing I needed in relation to the characters. The book is set in the 1920"s in Co.Kerry and Pat who is the head of the wardrobe department had everything set out for me by Friday afternoon which was totally on point as the shoot was on Sat morning.
I would also like to thank Máire Andrews who was responsible for arranging all the models. I have to say, she really did a great job making the whole event relaxed and completely enjoyable.
This is only the first session as there will be around 60 illustrations in this title and as models get tired we felt it best that we stagger the photography aspect of this work over a couple of sessions.
It's finally here, the ability for me to push through blogposts directly from my new website to Facebook. I know, this has probably been doable since the Stone Age.... not for me though. I hope this works as the thought of not having to duplicate posts really appeals to my sensibilities.
The good people from 'Love Leabhar' have just announced they are organising various story telling events on March the 12th. One of our titles, An tÉan Órga : The Golden Bird, is one of the featured books. Keep an ear out to hear the readings on RTÉ and in the book shops listed on the poster!

RTÉ & 2Fm
Beidh RTÉ 1 agus 2FM ag cur chun cinn fógraí maidir le Love Leabhar Gaeilge ón 7ú Márta ar aghaidh. Is rud as an nua atá i gceist le 2FM - ag díriú ar leabhair do dhaoine óga sa gcás seo, uair go mbeadh pearsan mór le rá ón stáisiún sin ag léamh blúirín eolais maidir leis na leabhair ar an liosta. Tarlóidh sin 4 h-uaire in aghaidh an lae.
The good people of the Dublin Book Festival were very kind to invite me to give a workshop in the Winter Garden in the Smock Alley Theatre yesterday. I have to say they were very thorough to ensure that they had all my accommodation arranged! Thanks!
I would particularly like to thank Lisa Scanlon Elaina Ryan and Julianne Mooney for organising this event.
There was a real buzz about the hall not only due to the events taking place upstairs but also because Eoin Colfer was giving a talk in the theatre downstairs.
We had a healthy turnout of parents and children who were very keen to construct the little beasties from the templates I had prepared in advance.
The workshop lasted for one hour before everyone was given the opportunity to blow up their own Helium balloon onto which they could place their little beastie!
Of course there were a couple of balloons that managed to evade the grips of some of the children so I have to apologise to the organisers for any balloons that now reside on the high hall ceiling with no immediate hope of retrieval!
I have recently developed a taste for peanut butter and grapes, swimming with sunglasses and having sensible chats with wood pigeons about the state of renewable forests in Ireland.
I have always had a pencil and sketchbook in hand to jot down ideas and record very important historical moments. A recent historical moment worth noting was when wee Daisy flew past the local sweet shop on her new scooter! She was very fast.
Currently, I am trying to re-arrange my studio which has been invaded by a squad of little cavorting beasties. They started arriving about a year ago and once the first got comfortable, it face timed all its friends who have now made my studio their new home.
These beasties are having a terrible habit of interrupting me while I am trying to work so I am presently in negotiations with them regarding issues such as respect for personal space and time management.
When I resolve these issues I will keep you posted on my work.
I am very lucky to have been invited to present a workshop in the Smock Alley Theatre on Sunday the 15th of November to help launch my new book:
"Cúraille i gCeannas" ( Rilla Takes Charge)
I am really looking forward to this as it will give me the opportunity to work with some creative types in the creation of more little scary Beasties!
Be warned, balloons may be involved!
So let's see if this Squarespace system is going to prove successful or not. There is a lot of Hype about its ability to provide very slick looking websites for its clients so I suppose only time will tell.I have purchased the most basic plan in order to see if this will suit me in the long term.
I will need to give it some time I suppose to let all the little nuances of this system bed in.
