Gaiscíoch na Beilte Uaine  :  Warrior of the Green Belt

‘This lovely book from Belfast is a retelling of an old Irish story full of bravery, killing, trickery, magic and taboos. It tells of the trials to be fulfilled by An Gaiscíoch (The Warrior) firstly to gain the green belt and then to prove himself a worthy suitor for the daughter of the king of the Eastern World. It is a long and quite difficult story accompanied by a CD (27 minutes long).
The real merit of this book is in Seán Mistéil’s beautiful design and the wonderful art by Andrew Whitson. There are beautiful close-up illustrations and double-page spreads with great detail, as well as some celtic motifs. It is a delightful book to hold and enjoy while listening to the poetic wealth of Irish on the CD. Suitable for 7+.’
